TYPES OF CAB DRIVERS

If you are a regular or not so regular user of cabs in Nairobi town you may have noticed a common pattern among cabbies

Mr. I won't say anything

This tend to be a bit old. The most they ask is what your destination is and keep quiet for the whole journey. This i don't like very much because i like to engage some people in some good discussion.

The Mr. i want your opinion

This have their own opinions but before they give you theirs they want to hear yours. Conversation will go hence

Cabbie: Who do you think will win the election
Answer: I don't know, maybe Kibaki

Cabbie: No no you know i heard that Raila is the one to win

Why were you asking me?

The conversation will probably go downhill from there and you will be bombarded with all manners of facts and fiction.

The Mr. I wanna know about you and what you do.

The conversation will probably go this way

Cabbie: Where do you work (As in all Kenyans where you work is probably more important than your own name)

A: This and this place

Cabbie: How is so and so (meaning how is the CE?)

A: He is good

Cabbie: I know him through so and so and so

A: Cool

It will then degenarate to discussions about the so and so's, you, what you think of your company and finally the advice you give to them.

Feel free to share your cab drivers experiences. I am looking at you 3Toc.

  1. LOL. I was just about to dot my many experiences here and then say that last sentence.

I tend to find a cab guy and stick with him for time.He has to have a tidy cab and he has to be able to talk. Quiet cab drivers scare me.If he is a joker even better. All the cab drivers I use are talkative, I think or I ask too many questions.

  2. He should not be fueling his car during the trip. He can be talkative and funny and all that, but he should also be very discrete especially when you are not alone on the backseat.

  3. Well, unlike you, I like the I-won't-say-nothing driver. I like to have good conversations but not in a cab. Or during working time.

  4. The tour guide driver. Nanii, that is KICC, then hapo mbele that is Times Tower, bla bla bla.

  5. One who can read my mood. If I want silence let my curt short answers inform you to shut up. If I want conversation lets do that. I also go with specific drivers like 3toc (I feel safer) but there will be that time when you need a new one.

  6. 90% of the times I find myself chatting up the cab drivers. Some get to tell me of their experiences in car jacking moments and others if very close will tell you of how they got some from a drunk horny mama. I also find myself talking to matatu drivers alot. Get to know why they do some of those stunts they pull on other road users.
